Gavin Bowyer

I am a photographer, based in Winchester, Hampshire UK

I trained in Medicine at Cambridge and Oxford and qualified as a doctor. I went on to specialise as a trauma & orthopaedic surgeon, working in the British Army and then the NHS and private practice.

Travel and photography have always been a passion for me. These have formed an important part of my life and work, from photographing irrigation schemes in Africa on medical expeditions, to recording war wounds on the Afghan border and in Gaza.

Over the past few years I have been able to dedicate more time to photography. Recently I have sought ways to support charities through photography, working with organisations in Uganda, Kenya and across Africa, providing portraits and wildlife pictures to raise awareness of welfare and conservation issues.

Closer to home, I have worked with those recovering from cancer, the elderly and those having chemotherapy or end of life care, to create photographic memories. Those are subjects close to my own heart.  It has been my privilege to work with the charity “Remember My Baby” providing images to help those going through the early loss of an infant.
